Centrosome Localization of Mps1 |

Centrosomes are single copy organelles that are involved in the proper segregation of chromosomes. The protein Mps1 has been shown to be involved in proper centrosome function and cell division. This protein is found in all cells but is often found disproportionately in cancerous cells. This project investigates how Mps1 localizes to centrosomes. To do so we mutated the tyrosine residue at amino acid 91 to a phenylalanine residue, which is highly conserved in many species from yeast to humans and tyrosine is often important in phosphorylation. Phenylalanine is a good choice for replacement because it is similar in structure to tyrosine. This will allow us to check whether the mutant Mps1 localizes to centrosomes or not.
