One of Dr. Orosz’s passions was the novel idea of looking at the immune system as a complex network and how this complexity drove immune response to transplantation. He began collaborating with Dr. Virginia Folcik to create a computer model of the immune system and its response to various stresses. The model Dr. Folcik created came to be known as the Basic Immune Simulator, which is showcased in this site. Dr. Orosz and Dr. Folcik believe in sharing knowledge, more minds are better than one, so a Web site was created by Christina Sass as a means of sharing this project and the ideas generated by it. Today Dr. Folcik continues the work of enriching the Basic Immune Simulator and designs experiments using the simulator in hopes of finding a better means of controlling the immune response.
This site is dedicated to Dr. Charles G. Orosz,
a terrific immunologist, author, mentor, and friend.
