The Chapulin and Anthropology

Unfortunately there are many people who may not be able to travel around the world. Most people may not even know where Oaxaca, Mexico is, so this is a multimedia-rich area in order for you, the viewer, to at least experience the rural Oaxacan culture as best as possible.

  This gallery is intended for the viewer to experience the market environment where the chapulin is sold primarily by women. These images were captured in a variety of markets around rural Oaxaca.
  
  
• Hogares y Cocinas (Households and Kitchens)
  This is where Oaxacans prepare food, including chapulines for consumption. No matter what socioeconomic status an individual or households is, chapulin will still be served. Contrary to most popular belief insects as food are not just a "crisis food."
  
  
• Restaurantes
  Restaurants both in Mexico and the U.S.A., run by Oaxcans (for example, Donaji's Restaurant in Mitla, Oaxaca and pictured in this gallery), serve chapulin as an appetizer and main course. Feast your eyes . . .
  
  
• Arqueologia de Oaxaca
  These images were taken in Monte Alban. Oaxaca's past goes back far before the days of the Spanish Conquistadors. The chapulin is a part of this legacy.
