Ed Ray, who is now the President of Oregon State University, was Provost at The Ohio State University during many key events in disability history on campus. He played a very important role in the COTA-OSU bus contract protest by working with the lead protester, Belinda Spinoza, to make sure the transportation needs for students with disabilities were met. Ray is also responsible for bringing in the ADA Coordinator Scott Lissner. “When I interviewed him for the job I told him that I did not simply want someone who would keep us in compliance with the law. I wanted someone who would make sure that we did the right thing,” says Ray.

Ray also worked with Brenda Brueggemann to get the American Sign Language Program started. As Provost, Ray was very focused on reflecting Ohio State’s diversity in the curriculum. “I argued that if we were genuinely concerned about diversity and inclusion of all members of our community then that fact should be reflected in our curriculum because we teach, study, and publish creative work on subjects we take seriously in the academy,” says Ray.
