In May of 2001, the University’s Distinguished Diversity Enhancement Award was given to Brenda Brueggemann for her work and involvement in the fields of Deaf Studies and Disability Studies. She says that this kind of recognition brought the field of Disability Studies and the program, that was not very well known at the time, to the attention of the University.
