In 1998 Elizabeth Hamilton produced the first dissertation that was considered to be a part of Disability Studies at Ohio State. Although she was a student in German, Hamilton's dissertation, "Disabiling Discourses in German Literature from Lessing to Grass," addressed the representation of disability in post World War II novels. Hamilton is now a tenured professor at Oberlin College and is currently publishing a book with Yale University Press about disability in foreign languages.
