Type, Time, and Communication: Principles of Kinetic Typography
Professor R. Brian Stone (Design)
Mason Harding (Design)
On-screen media messages are becoming more layered and complex for the user and designer. Although it has been shown that the introduction of motion adds interest to a message, the exact mechanisms to enhance meaning via motion and the appropriate usages of motion remain elusive to many. Using established stimuli, the current study promotes the principles of meaningful, expressive typography and the methods of engaging motion graphics. By demonstrating the principles in an easily understood overview of effective motion type design practice, this guide will provide a clear demonstration of how the meaning of a message can be enhanced through the addition of animated motion.
