Simulating the Complexity of the Immune System

Dr. Virginia Folcik Nivar (Surgery)
Christie Sass (Molecular Genetics)

Utilizing an agent-based computer simulation affords the opportunity to study the complex behavior of the immune system in a way that is not possible using a living system. The Basic Immune Simulator is an agent-based model of immune system behavior. It will help us understand the immune system in its entirety as well as the theories behind immune complexity. Showcasing the model via the web will allow others to generate information that can be used to systematically devise more effective strategies for controlling the immune response in a variety of pathological situations.
