how to participate
How to apply
Research on Research (R2) is a grant program held during summer quarter. Applications for the R2 grant are made available in winter quarter and awarded in spring quarter.
Students and faculty members are required to apply for the R2 grant as a team. Teams must consist of a minimum of one full-time faculty member and one full-time undergraduate student. (Undergraduate students must be enrolled full-time for the preceding two quarters and must not graduate before or plan to graduate during summer quarter when the R2 program takes place.) Students will be paid $5,000 for their summer work, less taxes, etc.
Faculty and students who have previously participated in Research on Research during previous summers are not eligible to apply again.
How R2 participants are chosen
A team of Ohio State University faculty and staff members review the applications. Successful applications are drawn from across a broad spectrum of the university and must have evidence of the following general areas:
Partnership
A logical pairing of faculty and student team members. Have they had contact in the past? If not, what is the basis for the academic relationship?
Research topic
Is there a clear conception of the research planned for the summer? Is the research important, exciting, or interdisciplinary?
Student career
Will the project help the student in his or her undergraduate career, graduate career, or in making decisions about interests and career paths?
Research portfolio
Are the uses to which the research portfolio will be put valid and compelling?
Project completion
Is the scope of the research project reasonable for summer quarter? does the student show the ability to complete projects? is the faculty member committed to the program and project completion?
