Please mark your calendar for the exciting second annual Universal Usability Tech Open House at the Ohio State University's Digital Union on Thursday, October 11 from 10am–5:30 pm.

This event features panels, workshops and the exciting technology Open House with demonstrations of the latest in accessible technology. All events are free and open to the public.

Time Presentation
2:30pm AT for All: Free and Open Source Assistive Technologies, Steve Jacobs, President of the IDEAL Group. Steve will demonstrate a variety of open source and free software for users with visual and/or cognitive disabilities. This session will be of interest both to users and the software and web development community.
3:00pm

DAISY and Victor Reader Stream, Nolan Crabb, Director of Assistive Technology, The Ohio State University. Nolan will discuss the DAISY format and demonstrate Victor Reader Stream, a DAISY player that offers so much in such a small package: Removable SD card for storing books, e-text files, music, recordings, as well as built-in text-to-speech to read text books.

3:30pm

Braille+ Mobile Manager and the KNFB Reader, Irwin Hott, Senior Editor, Newsreel Magazine. Irwin will showcase the Braille+ the new Linux based pocket-sized mobile manager and portable Braille notetaker designed to level the playing field for the visually impaired. In addition, Irwin will also demonstrate the innovative KNFB Reader which is the world's first portable Optical Recognition System (OCR) system for the visually impaired.

4:00pm

Speech Recognition: Dragon and Vista, Marc Solomon, Technical Support Consultant, Universal Low Vision Aids & Peter Bossley, OSU Office of Research Information Systems. Watch brief demonstrations of Dragon NaturallySpeaking and Vista’s Speech Recognition then ask questions to presenters of each.

4:30pm

Freedom Scientific’s WYNN Literacy Software for Cognitive & Reading Disabilities, Sean Miller, Counselor / Technology Coordinator, OSU Office for Disability Services.  WYNN was developed with the help of special educators and individuals with learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dysgraphia and aphasia. It was designed to transform printed text into understandable information to benefit struggling readers of all ages. This session will provide a brief on screen demonstration of WYNN and will highlight unique tools available with this program.

This event is presented by the Digital Union, the Web Accessibility Center, the Office of Disability Services, the ADA Coordinators Office, and the Accessible Technology Users Group in partnership with Universal Low Vision Aids.
