In January 2005, Ohio State University leaders, including the Technology Coordinating Council, Council of Deans, Senior Fiscal Officers and the University Senate Fiscal Committee, approved a 5-year funding proposal submitted by the Office of the CIO to build and support a centrally managed wireless network for Ohio State University - Columbus campus.
Under separate funding, CIO Ilee Rhimes also appointed TELR (Technology Enhanced Learning & Research), in collaboration with OSU colleges, to deliver a best practices wireless instructional technologies website and sponsor a series of professional development opportunities for faculty.
The OSU Wireless Project includes both the technical and pedagogical wireless initiatives for Ohio State University.
The OSU Wireless Project Phase I started in September 2005 with the conversion of 200 existing wireless hotspots in more than 60 buildings and key student gathering areas on campus to standardized sign-on. Ohio State faculty, staff and students will be able to log into any OSU Wireless hotspot using a pre-assigned OSUWireless ID and PIN. There is no charge for Ohio State faculty, staff and students to use OSU Wireless hotspots. Instructions on activating your OSUWireless ID and PIN, configuring your device and more have been posted to the OSU Wireless Network page.
