The Digital Union was the setting for excitement and anxiety the afternoon of Thursday, August 25, as students, faculty, and staff participating in the Research on Research (R2) program prepared for the culminating event of their summer. Over 100 guests, including students' family members and friends, faculty colleagues, and a number of university administrators, attended the second annual R2 showcase.

The R2 program is orchestrated by Technology Enhanced Learning and Research (TELR), a division of the Office of the Chief Information Officer. In addition to working on OSU faculty-directed research, students spend summer quarter learning the multimedia skills necessary to create a web-based description of their research project. These eportfolios were featured in the showcase and will be used as teaching tools in future quarters.
R2 participants' research tackled a wide range of topics, including economics, engineering, history, medicine, and design. They explored sophisticated research questions, such as

The students were more than happy to show off the fruits of their labor to those in attendance. Among the audience were President Karen Holbrook , Provost Barbara Snyder , and Director of the Library Joe Branin. Even passersby dropped in to see what the fuss was about, as the conference table once covered with laptops was loaded with beverages and finger foods.

After the meet, greet, and electronic poster session, guests congregated in the showcase area of the DU for remarks from CIO Ilee Rhimes and Deputy CIO Susan Metros as well as congratulatory speeches delivered by President Holbrook and Provost Snyder. Faculty participants wrapped up the showcase by presenting their student partners with a certificate of completion for the program.
