Earlier today, we previewed an overview of the Calendar tool. In the following post, we’ll discuss how to populate the Calendar automatically. Stay tuned at 5 o’clock today for more details regarding how to create events and manage tasks within the Calendar.

Populating the Calendar (by tool)
The Calendar tool constantly interacts with other tools in Carmen. As you set up these tools, you can choose settings to automatically populate the Calendar tool. These settings can be found in the “Add Restrictions” or “Availability” sections.
Content: The Calendar automatically shows information entered for the Due Date and End Date. In the Calendar tool, End Dates appear as “Availability Ends”.
To set date information, Click the “Add restrictions” section on the topic page (left) or the module page (right) to display and edit date options.

Discussion: Once you click the “Display in Calendar” check box, the calendar shows information entered for the Due Date and End Date. In the Calendar tool, End Dates appear as the date in which a discussion is “Locked”.
To set date information, scroll to the Availability section on the Edit Forum or Edit Topic page. Select “Forum is visible for a specific date range”. Check “Has End Date” to input an end date and then check “Display in Calendar”.

Dropbox Folders: Dropbox Folders now give you the option to set Due Dates in addition to End Dates. Due Dates automatically appear in the Calendar tool.
To set date information, click the Restrictions tab on the Edit Folder page. Check the “End Date” box and input the appropriate date.

Grade Items: Once you click the “Display in Calendar” check box, the calendar shows information for the End Date. In the Calendar tool, the End Date of a Grade Item appears as the item being “Due”.
To set date information, click the appropriate Grade Item from the Manage Grades page. Click the Restrictions tab. Select “Grade item is visible for a specific date range”. Check “Has End Date” to input an end date and then check “Display in Calendar”.

Quiz: Once you click the “Create Schedule Event” check box, the calendar shows information for the End Date. In the Calendar tool, the End Date displays as “Due”.
To set date information, click the appropriate Quiz from the Quiz page. Click the Restrictions tab. Check “Has End Date” to input an end date and then check “create Schedule event”.
Note: Only Active quizzes can be scheduled on the Calendar. To activate a quiz, change the status to “Active”.
