Student Engagement In and Out of Class

Joni Tornwall

Matt Stearmer uses LectureTools to encourage student engagement and success when he’s meeting with them and even when he’s not.

I joined Matt Stearmer’s Introduction to Sociological Theory class last Friday morning to find out how he’s using LectureTools in his classroom.  What I found is that his students are using it perhaps more outside of class than in class!

Matt posts his PowerPoint presentations in LectureTools and asks the typical in-class questions that one would expect with this type of student response and lecture engagement tool.  But he also asks the students to prepare for class and for tests by studying content and taking practice quizzes that provide feedback in LectureTools.

Listen to Matt describe his creative use of this system:

If you are interested in augmenting your existing PowerPoint presentations to increase student engagement, email the Digital Union and let us know.  We are eager to introduce you to tools that have the potential to do just that.
