Last week, I noted that the next update to Carmen — expected in spring 2013 — includes a major visual redesign. Every time we update Carmen, we work our way through the Help documents, changing what needs to be changed. Sometimes, all we need to do is modify a few pages or slip in some new screenshots.
This update is so visually significant that it provides a no-excuses justification for something that has needed doing for quite awhile — looking at the Help site with new eyes: does it contain the kind of information it needs to contain? in the right formats? can people find what they need?
To help with this big project, the Virtual Learning Environments Group (aka, the Carmen team) will be hiring a GAA to perform technical writing, information organizing, and general communications tasks. This is a 50% appointment for the 2012-2013 year, with the possibility of funding for summer 2013.
If you or someone you know is interested, please see the position description and application information on the OCIO Student Jobs site.
As a bit of practical encouragement, the last GA we hired to work with us on our Help documents is now the Associate Director of Online Learning at Kent State University.
