Digital Union Staff’s Favorite iPad Apps: Entertaining and Clever (Pt. 3)

Katie Jurgens

For the final round of Digital Union Staff’s favorite iPad apps, I have a list of apps that are fun and interesting to play around with.  These ones are really all worth a try, and most of them are free!

Garage Band

A fun app for creating music, Garage Band allows you to combine melodies and drum beats to make your own tunes.  Some of the features include: the option of viewing the guitar strings on the screen, a die to choose a random drumbeat, and the capability to jam with up to 3 of your friends.

Flipboard

This social media client takes the latest news from your Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites and combines it into one easy to view interface, somewhat like a magazine.  You can also read and incorporate articles from over 2 dozen other news and media sites.

Relax Melodies

The 46 different ambient sounds included with this app allow you to mix and create your own relaxing combination for sleep or stress relief, and then save your favorites.  There is an integrated timer to shut off the sound, and also 2 binaural beats that are supposed to tune your brainwaves to sleep faster.

The Weather Channel

With detailed 36-hour forecasts, radar views of your local area, severe weather alerts, and “Weather on the 8’s” video forecasts, this app gives you all the tools to be prepared for any weather.  It also has an easy-to use interface and cool weather pics gallery.

The Creeps!

Try and stop the Creeps! Before they make it down the path to your bed, by strategically placing weapons along the trail.  This game is simple yet challenging and has cute colorful graphics for a low-priced game (actually free right now!).
