Creating Online Scavenger Hunts for Fun and Effective Course Orientations (02/03/2012)

Joni Tornwall

Are you looking for a new way of providing a course orientation for your students?  Jackie von Spiegel of the Psychology Department demonstrated how to use Carmen to create a scavenger hunt (or treasure hunt) which can act as an interactive, self-paced orientation to any course, whether it is traditional in format or online. The scavenger hunt consists of a series of tasks that require students to use various Carmen tools, while simultaneously imparting essential information about the course. This activity allows students to test their own technological skills and provides them with a solid foundation for success in the course.

In this workshop, Jackie shares her experience of creating a scavenger hunt for her online General Psychology course and presents a working demonstration.

Jackie also describes her creation process in a blog post with a video (20 minutes).
