In the past year, technology staff at The Ohio State University have formed an unprecedented partnership with students to deliver a mobile application called OSU Mobile, designed to meet a wide range of student needs. In this workshop, collaborators from the OCIO, Student Life, and University Communications discussed surveying students to understand their needs, engaging them in development work, and partnering with students to test the application.
Steve Fischer, James Burgoon, and Glenn Donaldson discussed the usage and popularity of the most important feature of OSU Mobile, the ability for students to look up grades and schedules in real time, as well as other features and plans for future phases. They shared the technologies used, some of the challenges working on a large campus, and how involving students can make things run more smoothly than one might expect.
