Mobile Devices: A New Year's use for your iPhone

Gabe Moulton

R-U-BuzzedScreen ShotI was reading the Wall Street Journal today and ran across an article discussing an application for your iPhone that seemed appropriate for a New Year’s Eve blog entry.

It’s called “R-U-Buzzed? BAC Calculator” and it does just that. Enter your sex, weight, amount of time you have spent consuming alcohol and the number of drinks you have had and it returns an estimate of your blood alcohol level. It even provides commentary with an appropriate background color encouraging you behave responsibly. Perhaps the best feature is the application can help you call for cab using the location data provided by the phone!

A couple of caveats:

  1. Keep in mind this application is only an estimate. If its says “call a cab,” definitely do so; on the other hand, if it says you are ok to drive you should still use your judgment before getting behind the wheel.
  2. Since the application was published by Colorado Department of Transportation, the cab feature works best to find cabs in Colorado.

Please enjoy your New Year’s Eve responsibly! Happy New Year!
