Wolfram Alpha? What’s that?! – my first reaction when a friend sent a link about it. The name made no sense and I would have never guessed what it could be. But as I navigated through the Wolfram Alpha website, it was just fascinating to read about the capabilities of this computational engine. Yes,it is not a search engine, but a computational knowledge engine where you ask a question and the engine computes the answer based on the data it knows such as weather, census, financial data, musical notes, etc.
A sample of what the Wolfram Alpha can do:
1. If you enter “mozzarella cheese”, it interprets that you would like to know information about mozzarella cheese and displays the nutritional facts for a serving of 30grams, average daily value ranking, average highest nutrients compared to other foods, calories, carbohydrates, fats and fatty acids, proteins, vitamins, minerals, sterols and physical properties.

2. Another example, if you enter “Golden Gate Bridge vs. Brooklyn Bridge”, it displays a table comparing the properties of the two bridges and also a map showing their location.

3. If you put in “D C E F# A B C”, it interprets these as musical notes and gives a visual output of the musical notation as well as the keyboard display. You can also play the sound. A great and easy way to learn music for the novice as well as to compose music for the expert musician!

There is a lot more to explore. I would recommend you to check out the Wolfram Alpha website and explore the computational possibilities!
